UP Nikay Chunav Results: The results of the Meerut civic body elections in Uttar Pradesh have been in favor of the BJP. Harikant Ahluwalia has won the post of Mayor. He secured 235953 votes. This was 41.07 percent of the total votes. Harikant Ahluwalia won by defeating Seema Pradhan, wife of SP MLA Atul Pradhan.

In 1995 Meerut Municipal Corporation had 60 wards. Then BSP candidate Ayub Ansari was elected city chief. Later the post of the head of the city came to be known as the mayor.
After this, in the year 2000, after the expansion of the border, 70 wards were formed. Haji Shahid Akhlaq of BSP was elected mayor.
In the year 2006, there were 80 wards of the corporation. Madhu Gurjar from BJP’s Backward Classes won the post of Mayor.
In the year 2012 Harikant Ahluwalia of BJP from backward class became mayor.
In 2017, elections were held in 90 wards. BSP’s Sunita Verma won the mayor’s post from SC quota.

If we look at the election of Mayor in Meerut in 2017, BSP candidate Sunita Verma had won by giving a tough fight to BJP. He got 234,817 votes. Whereas BJP candidate Kanta Kardam got 205,235 votes. In this way Sunita Verma won by about 29 thousand votes. SP got 47,153 votes and Congress got 28,794 votes.
