Not only did he come here for campaigning, but citing himself, he also accused the BJP of committing atrocities. However, Azam’s appeal did not work and the ruling party continued to hold Swar. In this context, the manner in which the opposition was preparing to attack the BJP with regard to Mission 2024, it has received a setback.

Voters did not show interest in the by-election

Voter apathy came to the fore in the by-election and the voter turnout was lower than in the last general election. Swar recorded 44.95 percent voting in the by-election. In such a situation, the equations of victory and defeat on Saturday were decided to a large extent on the fact that despite low turnout, whose voters came out more.

Earlier in the assembly elections 2022, 69.34 percent voters in Swar had registered their presence in the great festival of democracy. BJP’s ally Apna Dal (S) candidate was in the fray for this seat from the ruling party, whose by-election saw a direct fight with the SP. The Swar seat fell vacant due to the cancellation of the membership of Abdullah Azam, son of senior SP leader Azam Khan.

Talking about the Swar assembly seat, Abdullah Azam won the assembly elections 2022 by defeating Haider Ali Khan ‘Hamza Khan’ of Apna Dal (S). Abdullah Azam got 126162 votes and Hamza Khan got 65059 votes. Abdullah Azam got 59.19 percent and Hamza Khan got 30.52 percent votes.
