Does JDS hold the key to form the government?

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka is hoping to break the 38-year-old tradition of gradual change of power in the state. For this, the party is relying on the Modi effect. At the same time, Congress also wants to win this election so that it can use it to infuse new enthusiasm among party leaders and workers before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, it also remains to be seen that in the event of a hung mandate, will the JDS led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda hold the key to form the government?

Counting of votes will start at 8 am

The counting of votes cast for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly elections will begin at 8 am in 36 centers across the state and election officials expect a clear picture about the result by afternoon. Official sources said elaborate security arrangements have been made across the state, especially in and around the counting centers, to avoid any untoward incident.

Hung assembly possibility

Let us tell you that a “record” voter turnout of 73.19 percent was recorded in the elections on May 10 for the 224-member assembly in Karnataka. With most exit polls predicting a close contest between the Congress and the BJP, leaders of both the parties seem “restless” about the results, while the JD(S) seems to be expecting a hung mandate , which will provide it a chance to play a role in government formation. Most pollsters have given an edge to the Congress over the ruling BJP, while also indicating the possibility of a hung assembly in the state.
