A student of ICFAI University was shot dead at Patel Chowk in Harmu, a VIP area of the capital Ranchi, at around 6:30 pm on Friday evening. The deceased has been identified as Nivedita Nayan (20 years, father-Siddheshwar Prasad), resident of Dola, Nawada district of Bihar. Nivedita had given the final examination of commerce graduation two days ago.
She used to live in Uttam Hostel located at some distance from Patel Chowk. Another girl student, who lives in the same hostel, has also been injured in the incident. Here, in the preliminary investigation, suspicion of murder is being raised on the alleged lover of the girl student, Ankit Ahir, who is a resident of Nawada. The police is searching for him. The family of the deceased has been informed about the incident.
After the examination was over, Nivedita was preparing to go home. On Saturday his father was going to come to pick him up. Shortly before the incident, she had returned with her friend from the market after buying new clothes for herself. After this, both of them had golgappas at Sahajanand Chowk and were returning to the hostel on foot. As soon as both of them reached Patel Chowk, a young man came from behind and shot Nivedita in the back of her head with a dagger. The bullet pierced the head and exited through the right eye. His friend who was walking with him also got a bullet wound. Due to this, there is a slight injury in his chest. The police have not recovered any shell from the spot.

According to eyewitnesses, after committing the incident, the accused fled from Patel Chowk towards Ashok Vihar. Whereas, Nivedita fell on the road after being shot. After this, a crowd gathered on the spot. Gaurav, the operator of a TV channel located at Patel Chowk, ran away with Nivedita in his car. After investigation here, the doctors declared him dead. Argora police station in-charge Vinod Kumar reached RIMS on receiving the information. Police is investigating the matter. Dog Squad and FSL team also reached the spot for investigation.
Buses and trains going to Nawada are being investigated, police stations alerted
In the preliminary investigation of the police, the name of Nivedita’s alleged lover Ankit Ahir has come to the fore. It is being told that there was a rift between the two over some issue. Because of this, Nivedita distanced herself from Ankit. According to the police, Ankit’s mobile phone is switched off, so his location is not being found.
In such a situation, the police is investigating the bus and train going to Nawada. Ranchi Police has also alerted all the police stations falling on the way to Nawada. Since no CCTV has been installed at the crime scene, efforts are being made to get the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the route through which the accused fled.
