Washington, May 13 (Hindustan). The US military will increase its presence in the Arab region. The US has taken this decision after the case of harassment of several merchant ships by Iran in the Arab region’s sea border came to the fore.
In the past two years, 15 international ships passing through the Gulf were harassed or attacked. Iran has been held responsible for these conditions. It is alleged that last month, Iran’s Navy had seized a Panamanian merchant ship, due to which a lot of tension had increased. Even before that, Iran had seized an oil tanker from Marshall Island.
America has taken a tough stand on this. White House spokesman John Kirby said the Defense Department plans to strengthen its defensive capability in the Gulf. For this, cooperation and coordination with regional forces will be increased. Now America has decided to increase patrolling through the Fifth Fleet of the US Navy based in Bahrain. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the US Fifth Fleet, said in his statement that Iran is irresponsibly harassing and seizing merchant ships and this must be stopped. Navigation and movement of ships in the international boundary should be free from any coercion.
