Villagers took out the dead bodies of Sushma Hansda, 6-year-old daughter of Sukhlal Hansda and Vishnu Champia, 4-year-old son of late Pradhan Champia. On getting the information, the villagers reached the pond on Thursday evening and started searching for the children. Vishnu’s body was taken out in the evening, but Sushma’s body could not be recovered.
Both children went into deep pond while taking bath

Due to this incident, mourning has spread in the whole village. According to the information, both the children had gone to bathe in the pond along with other children of the village at around 3 o’clock on Thursday. All the children were taking bath in the pond. Meanwhile, both started drowning in the deep water of the pond.
The children told their relatives that Vishnu and Sushma drowned.
Other children taking bath with them tried their best to save both, but they could not succeed. The children were horrified after Vishnu and Sushma drowned. Everyone reached home very late. When the family members of Vishnu and Sushma asked the other children the reason for not coming to their house, they fearfully told that both had drowned in the pond.
Vishnu Champia’s dead body was found at seven in the evening
After this the villagers reached the pond. The search for both the children started. Vishnu Champia’s body was found at around seven in the evening. Sushma’s body was also found on the second morning i.e. on Friday. On getting information about the incident, the police reached the village and sent both the dead bodies to Sadar Hospital Chaibasa for post-mortem.

Vishnu Champia’s mother Jayshree Champia told that the repair work of the house is going on. The child secretly went to bathe with the children of the village. When he did not return home in the evening, they started searching. When I asked the children, I came to know that my son has drowned in the pond.

Both children went to Anganwadi in the morning
Vishnu Champia’s mother Jayashree Champia also told that the son had gone to the Anganwadi center in the morning. After coming from there, had dinner at home in the afternoon and went towards the pond with the children at around three o’clock in the day. She told that her husband Pradhan Champia had died of illness in February 2023.
