Jharkhand News: The mischief of elephants continues in Sariya area under Giridih district. A herd of elephants created havoc in Nimatand and Jharha villages of Sabalpur panchayat under Saria police station. The number of elephants is said to be above 25. This herd of elephants broke the fence wall of farmer Pappu Singh and ate some of the Rabi crops planted in about four acres and destroyed some. Cucumber, Cucumber, Prawn, Watermelon, Chilli, Pumpkin, Okra etc. vegetables were eaten and destroyed by trampling. The machines and other equipment used for irrigation in the fields were also damaged.

Farming was done by taking loan

The victim farmer Pappu Singh told that at around 11 o’clock in the night a herd of elephants suddenly knocked. Farmers got scared due to the cries of elephants. Somehow get out of here. The herd of elephants broke down the wall and entered the fence and trampled the crops. Due to this, there is a possibility of loss of about five lakh rupees to the farmers. The victim farmer Pappu Singh told that he had taken money from the market on interest and planted it in the field, but due to the mischief of elephants, he has suffered a huge financial loss.

Forest department inspected the damage

Later, this herd of elephants damaged the wall of the Sanskrit middle school of Nimatand and destroyed MDM’s rice, pulses, potatoes and other goods. Principal Babulal Kushwaha told that last night a herd of 25-30 elephants came from Rajdah forest and damaged the school. He licked the potatoes, pulses, onions etc kept in the room. There has been a loss of about 30 to 40 thousand in these. After getting the information of the incident, the forest department team reached and chased the elephants. After getting the information, Sariya Central Zip Member reached the fields of the farmers and took stock of the damage. After talking to the Forest Department, he has demanded to get proper compensation and to get the elephants out of Giridih district area. The victims have also talked to Sariya CO and Forest Range Officer and demanded proper compensation.

Applications are being forwarded

Forest Range Officer Suresh Ram said that the applications of the people affected by the elephant menace in the area are being sent to the senior officials for proper compensation. The Forest Officer said that the herd of elephants is still in the nearby forest. That’s why the local people should be alert. However, a special team has been called to drive away the elephants. The departmental team is trying to drive away the elephants from the area.
