Surat: Arrangements to save animals from heat in zoos

0

With the onset of summer, the daily food supply for Surat zoo animals such as leopards, lions, tigers and bears has decreased by more than ten per cent. However, along with this the consumption of water by animals has also increased. Earlier, when summer came, such animals were not active and used to come out of the cage only occasionally. Now the animals are active due to water fountains placed in place of the hunters, and visitors can watch them in the heat of the afternoon.

Even animals get upset in summer

Due to the heat of fire raining from the sky in Surat, its effect is being seen on humans as well as animals. The food of the predators kept in the Surat zoo has decreased by 10 percent while the amount of water has been increased. Apart from this, to avoid this heat, water fountains were also kept in the cages of 2 birds along with predatory animals, due to which the animals living in dormant state in summer have also become active due to cold. Because of this, the animals are also easily visible to the tourists visiting the zoo during the holidays.

Arrangement of isolation for animals in summer

Superintendent of Dr. Rajesh Patel Zoo told that since the beginning of May, the heat in Surat is continuously increasing. Apart from this, in Gujarat including Surat, the mercury has reached around 38 degrees amid the forecast of monsoon and now the temperature is likely to rise further in the coming days. In view of this heat, arrangements have been made in the zoo of Surat Municipal Corporation to provide relief to the animals from the heat. Coolers have been installed in the cages of lions and tigers. Water fountains have also been installed in the open. We make special arrangements for those animals who suffer a lot during summer.
