Qatar Energy has signed two production sharing contracts for Blocks 6 and 8 located off the coast of the Republic of Suriname, following Qatar Energy’s winning of exploration rights in these blocks, which was announced in June 2021.
Under the two contracts and the accompanying agreements, Qatar Energy will acquire a 20% stake in both blocks, where exploration work is currently being planned. Total Energies (the operator) and Paradise Oil, a subsidiary of Statsoli, own the remaining stake equally between them.
His Excellency Engineer Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of Qatar Energy, said, “We are pleased to sign production sharing agreements for Blocks 6 and 8 with our partners, Total Energies and Statsoli, and we look forward to starting exploration work in this promising basin.”
His Excellency Minister Al-Kaabi added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the authorities of the Republic of Suriname and both Statsoli and our strategic partner Total Energies for their commitment and cooperation that contributed to reaching this agreement.”
Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Manea, Director of the International Production and Exploration Department at Qatar Energy, participated in the signing of the two participation contracts, during a ceremony organized by the state oil company in Suriname, Staatsolie, in the city of Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname. Contiguous Marine Areas 6 and 8 are located south of Area 58 in shallow waters off the coast of southern Suriname, in waters ranging from 40 to 65 meters in depth.
