New Delhi, May 10 (Hindustan Times). Violent protest against the arrest of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan is increasing. Incidents of arson and violence have increased more than yesterday in the whole country. The situation has become so bad on Wednesday that the protesters have entered the army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Internet service has been suspended in three provinces and all government schools have been closed.
Incidents of arson and violence are taking place due to the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al Qadir Trust case on Tuesday. It is alleged that Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and several other leaders of his party had taken about five billion rupees and hundreds of kanals of land from Bahria Town, a real estate company in Islamabad. It is alleged that the land was donated to a non-profit organization Al Qadir Trust. The special thing is that there are only two trustees in this trust, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. It is alleged that due to this agreement, the country’s exchequer has lost crores of rupees of revenue.
Pakistan is burning since the arrest of Imran. It was told that Imran Khan has been sent to Rawalpindi. The resentment became more vocal after the Islamabad High Court rejected the petition related to declaring Imran Khan’s arrest illegal. Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir has called an emergency meeting after the attack on the army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Apart from the Corps Commanders, many senior military officers are involved in this meeting.
As soon as the news of Imran’s arrest spread, massive protests started in many cities of Pakistan. At many places, the protesters turned violent and set police vehicles on fire and damaged public property. Section 144 has been implemented across the country due to the uproar by Imran Khan’s supporters. Except Sindh, internet was stopped in three provinces of Pakistan Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan. Social media has been banned.
Activists of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Islam also pelted stones at the residence of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in Faisalabad city. Similar protests were held in Multan, Jhang, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Khanewal, Vehari, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Gujarat cities. In view of the huge protest, the government of Pakistan has decided to close all private schools across the country on Wednesday. PTI workers are protesting against the arrest of the party chief. Demonstrations have taken to the streets across the country. In protest against this incident, PTI has also announced Pakistan Bandh.
