Islamabad, May 08 (Hindustan Times). 199 Indian fishermen lodged in Pakistani jail will be released soon. This decision has been taken after the death of an Indian prisoner lodged in Karachi in the past.

Recently, Indian prisoner Zulfikar, who was lodged in Pakistan’s jail, was admitted to a hospital in Karachi after his health deteriorated, where he died during treatment. Investigation revealed that Zulfikar died due to lung infection.

After Zulfikar’s death, the Pakistan government has decided to release 199 Indian fishermen lodged in the jail here. It has been told that as a gesture of goodwill, the Government of Pakistan will release these Indian fishermen from jail. These prisoners will be sent from Karachi jail to Lahore and will return to India from Lahore via Wagah border.

Qazi Nazir, a senior police officer in Karachi, told that the order for the release of Indian prisoners has come from the concerned ministry. On Friday i.e. May 12, these prisoners will be released and sent to Lahore.

Idi Welfare Trust, a Pakistani organization working for the welfare of prisoners in Pakistani jails, will make arrangements to take the Indian prisoners to Lahore. Trust officials alleged that the conditions in Pakistan’s jails were very bad. There is no proper system of doctors and treatment here, due to which the prisoners fall ill and sometimes they die.
