New York, May 4 (Hindustan). India has once again raised questions on the system of the United Nations Security Council. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj called for changes in the UN Security Council during a discussion on ‘Promoting Trust to Maintain Peace’ in the UN Security Council.

Ruchira Kamboj raised questions on the present system of the Security Council and said that the entire African continent, Latin America and the world’s largest democracy India are not represented in this system. In such a situation, it can be made more inclusive by making the five members of the Security Council equal to others. The Indian representative raised the question whether the current system of the Security Council eradicates inequality or promotes it? There has been talk of improving it for decades, but we cannot bring trust and peace until we find answers to the questions arising on the credibility of the Security Council. Kamboj said that there is a need to make the council members more accountable. This institution should be more open, inclusive of diversity, in which the South should also be represented.

The Indian representative said that developing countries should be included in the Security Council. When it has the power to give voice to the voiceless, then only it will be able to lead the world. The Security Council should also prioritize regional issues and work with regional organizations to address challenges.
