14 people died due to lightning in West Bengal

Kolkata, 28 April (Hindustan). At least 14 people were killed in West Bengal on Thursday night due to heavy rain and lightning accompanied by strong winds. People have died in five different districts of the state.

An official of the State Disaster Management Department said that four people have died in Burdwan district before being struck by lightning during heavy storm and rain. While two people each lost their lives in Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas. While, six people lost their lives in Paschim Medinipur and Howrah Rural districts. Most of the people who died were farmers and were out of the house at the time of the storm, due to which they came under its grip.

According to officials of the State Disaster Management Department, since Thursday evening, heavy rains accompanied by strong thunderstorms started in wide areas of South Bengal including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Burdwan, Murshidabad along with the capital Kolkata. Along with this, there was also lightning.

An official of Alipore-based Regional Meteorological Department said that the rain and thunderstorm started from 4:00 pm on Thursday.
