Khunti, 24 April (Hindustan Times). A woman farmer has made her family self-sufficient by gardening in Gopla village of Husir Panchayat, located 30 km from the district headquarters and 12 km from the Torpa block headquarters.

Binita Gudiya and her family were struggling financially in Gopla village of Husir Panchayat. To earn bread for two times, the family used to work in the construction of roads, buildings, bridges and culverts or work in the fields. The family had very little cultivation, in that too there was no means of irrigation except the monsoon. Only paddy and urad can be cultivated on this land in a year.

Binita wanted to set up a mango orchard in her farm, but there was neither capital nor irrigation facilities for investment. He didn’t even have any knowledge about mango gardening. Meanwhile, one day in the Gram Sabha, Binita came to know about Birsa Munda Mango Gardening Program (Mango Plantation under MNREGA) from social mobilizer Ursela under CFT program of Gram Panchayat (convergence of NRLM and MNREGA). In the next meeting of the gram sabha, the family members showed their interest in horticulture activity and requested the gram sabha to approve the mango plantation. Seeing the poor condition of the family, the gram sabha decided to approve it. He started mango gardening after getting technical information from the voluntary organization. It is said that there is no defeat for those who work hard. Binita’s hard work paid off and after a few years of hard work, mango crop started coming in her garden. Due to this the economic condition of her family started improving and today Binita has become an ideal woman farmer not only for her village but also for the block.

In this regard, Binita told that earlier the people of the village were afraid that if they take any scheme from MNREGA, the government will take possession of their land. Today we came to know that MNREGA is really very helpful in improving the condition of the villagers. Seeing the success of Binita’s family, some other people of the village have started mango gardening. Today there are six big mango orchards in Gopla village.

Farmers should take advantage of MNREGA schemes: Surbhi Mahatma

Surabhi Mahatma, an officer of the voluntary organization, says that the hard work of women farmers has paid off under the ambitious scheme MNREGA of the Central Government. Today, Binita not only in Torpa block, but goes to other districts of Jharkhand to give information about mango horticulture to the farmers. He said that other farmers should also take advantage of MNREGA schemes by taking inspiration from Binita. She said that in fact Binita Gudiya has become an inspiration for other women.
