Archery World Cup: India ends campaign with four medals including two gold

New Delhi, 24 April (Hindustan). India concluded its campaign at the Archery World Cup 2023 with four medals (two gold, one silver and one bronze). The Indian contingent won two more medals on Sunday. Three members of the Indian men’s recurve team, Atanu Das, Dheeraj Bommadevra and Tarundeep Rai won silver medals.

China’s Li Zhongyuan, Qi Jiangshuo and Wei Shaoxuan defeated the Indian trio 4-5 in the gold medal match. India lost the first two sets, but came back in the next two sets to level the match at 4-4. In the fifth and final set, the two teams were tied 28–28, which was followed by a shoot-out, in which the Chinese team won.

Earlier, the fourth seeded Indian men’s recurve archery team defeated Netherlands, Chinese Taipei, Italy and Japan to enter the final.

Dheeraj Bommadevra defeated Ilfat Abdullin of Kazakhstan 7-3 to win the bronze medal in the men’s individual recurve event. Earlier, both the gold medals that India won on Saturday were in the name of Jyothi Surekha Vennam. Jyoti won the gold medal first in the women’s individual compound event and then in the compound team event with Ojas Praveen Deotale.
