Vijay Mewawala, a strong contender for the post of Vice President of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), has been declared unopposed winner for the year 2023-24. Election Committee Chairman Ashish Gujrati has announced the postponement of the election scheduled for next Sunday as his only rival, Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya, has withdrawn her candidature. Eventually, the efforts of Kanjibhai Bhalada, Pravin Donga, Jitubhai Vakharia, Mayurbhai Golwala succeeded in postponing the elections in support of Vijay Mewawala.

Initially, 13 candidates were nominated for the post of vice-president in the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the year 2023-24, but instead of the election, efforts were made to stop the election by persuasion by former prominent union leaders. In which CA Mitish Modi, Bhadresh Shah, Manish Kapadia and women candidates Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya and Vijay Mewawala were in the fray.

In the initial phase, CA Mitish Modi and Bhadresh Shah withdrew their candidature in favor of Vijay Mewawala. However, Manish Kapadia and Vandana Bhattacharya had expressed their determination to contest against Vijay Mewawala, so it seemed likely that the chamber would hold a vice-presidential election this year.

An office was also started by Manish Kapadia in the Sahara Darwaza Agriculture Market. However, Manish Kapadia eventually withdrew his candidacy after being persuaded by community leaders and former presidents of the chamber that it was part of an effort to avoid election to the chamber.

Now efforts were made to persuade Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya, who was against Vijay Mewawala in the election battle, but she remained adamant on contesting the elections. Finally, on Friday, Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya withdrew her claim and announced her support to Vijay Mewawala. Eventually, the efforts of Kanjibhai Bhalada, Pravin Donga, Jitubhai Vakharia, Mayurbhai Golwala succeeded in postponing the elections in support of Vijay Mewawala.

Hence Vijay Mewawala was declared unopposed winner for the post of Vice President of The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the year 2023-24. Dignitaries including former president Dinesh Navadiya felicitated Vijay Mewawala at Chamber of Commerce Sarsana. In the coming year, Ramesh Vaghasia on the post of Chamber President and Vijay Mewawala on the post of Vice President will work for the development of industries in South Gujarat including Surat.
