Announced last month by the head of Romanian diplomacy at the meeting of EU foreign ministers, and subsequently promoted at the level of foreign ministers from the “Bucharest 9” format and within the NATO foreign ministry, the first Conference on the Security of the Black Sea region takes place on Thursday, April 13, under the auspices of the Crimea International Platform and is co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, the Ministry of National Defense of Romania, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Trilateral Romania – Ukraine – Republic of Moldova on security issues

On the same day, Romania hosts the second meeting of the Trilateral Romania – Ukraine – Republic of Moldova at the level of ministers of foreign affairs.

This edition of the Trilateral is focused on security issues and also benefits from the participation of the Defense Ministers of the three states. Thus, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu, the Minister of Defense of Romania, Angel Tîlvăr, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Emine Japarova, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Nicu Popescu and the Minister of Defense of Republic of Moldova, Anatolie Nosatîi.

The discussion agenda includes developments in the region, Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and Moscow’s hybrid action against the Republic of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region, NATO and EU support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and ways to strengthen trilateral cooperation in order to counter current threats and increasing the resilience of the two states.

The trilateral Romania – Republic of Moldova – Ukraine at the level of foreign ministers was launched in 2022 at the initiative of Minister Bogdan Aurescu, with the objective of strengthening cooperation between the three neighboring states, both in the current context marked by Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified aggression against of Ukraine and the multidimensional crises affecting Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as in the perspective of establishing a long-term dialogue and coordination mechanism, including Romania’s active support of the authorities in Chisinau and Kiev in order to implement the necessary reforms in the integration process European, notes caleeuropeana.ro.

p class=”mb-8 px-6 md:px-0 font-bitter text-s17-l170 md:text-s18-l170 text-c121212″>The first edition of the trilateral took place in Odesa on September 15, 2022 and benefited from the participation of energy ministers and representatives of energy companies from the three states. During the discussions, the emphasis was placed on the immediate support measures necessary for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to face the cold season, but also on long-term measures to strengthen their energy security, with an emphasis on regional interconnection, considering the need to combat the use of energy for geopolitical purposes.
