New Delhi, 10 April (Hindustan Times). The Central Election Commission on Monday granted national party status to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and scrapped the national status of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Trinamool Congress (AITC) and Communist Party of India (CPI).

Also Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in Nagaland; Voice of the People Party in Meghalaya and Tipra Motha in Tripura have been given the status of recognized state political parties. The status of state parties has been withdrawn from PDA (Manipur), PMK (Puducherry), RLD (Uttar Pradesh), BRS (Andhra Pradesh), RSP (West Bengal) and MPC (Mizoram).

It may be noted that last week the Karnataka High Court had directed the Election Commission to pass appropriate orders regarding the status of AAP’s national party by April 13.
