More precisely, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia was also disturbed by the fact that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova would have more rights and freedoms than those from Russia, for example.

Moldova is led by a man with a Romanian passport, he transcribed the Moldovan language into Romanian and does everything despite the national interests of this country. Where is the democracy here? (…) Official Chisinau in particular promotes an exactly opposite policy: the domestic political space is cleared of any manifestation of a different way of thinking; political opponents, mass media are intimidated; there is a collapse of the socio-economic situation.

Zaharova also claimed that the Republic of Moldova would go on the path of joining the EU by violating the Copenhagen criteria.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration welcomes the fact that the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows the Copenhagen criteria. We want to assure her that our country is determined to meet these criteria and is actively implementing them. We also want to emphasize the fact that the Republic of Moldova embraces the principles of democracy, the rule of law, equality, social justice, respect for fundamental rights and human freedoms. The statements of the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are inconsistent with reality and inadmissible in the relationship with our country. We want to remind you that there is a real parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition in the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the mass media can freely comment and criticize the actions of the authorities, within the limits provided by the law and provided that this does not endanger the security of the country.

Zakharov also suggests the spokeswoman of the Russian MFA “to reread the Constitution of Russia” where freedoms such as thought or expression are guaranteed, as well as the right to seek, receive, transmit, produce and disseminate information by any legal means.

Freedom of mass information is also guaranteed and censorship is prohibited. We wish the Russian side that these provisions are fully and unconditionally applied to ensure the protection of rights and freedoms for the benefit of all citizens of the Russian Federation.
