“The day of April 7, 2009 marks the maturity of our people, which will never again accept being swallowed by the dictatorship. 14 years ago, people chose, blatantly, a different path – that of democracy, of respected rights, that of the European Union. We then took a path that we all thought would be faster, but in the years that followed there were other attempts to strangle democracy and our future. But the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have always known what kind of state they want to live in. They clearly saw who works for democracy and who works against it,” said the head of state.

The head of state added that the victims of that day must be avenged by carrying out justice reform.

“There were many missed opportunities, but in our short history we have demonstrated that we have a free spirit, we do not accept tyranny and violence. Our duty is to avenge the deaths and tortures of young people on April 7 through a true reform of justice, so that the communist “troikas” who condemned citizens beaten directly in cells, without a lawyer, without the right to appeal, will never appear again”, it also shows in the president’s message.

We note that, exactly 14 years ago, thousands of people came out in the center of the capital to challenge the result of the parliamentary elections, according to which the Communist Party retained the majority in the Legislature. It happened after eight years of government, during which Vladimir Voronin was the president of the Republic of Moldova, which he ruled with an iron fist.
