A section of lawyers belonging to pro-Islamist Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have shown totally unacceptable audacity and thuggish behavior towards Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik – a former judge of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
According to a media report, Justice Chowdhury was harassed by a section of pro-BNP lawyers, when he went to attend the iftar party of the newly elected committee of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Lawyers Association. Those lawyers had thrown iftar packets and bottles containing drinking water at this esteemed former judge.
Justice Chowdhury told the journalists that the pro-BNP lawyers stopped him at the entrance gate of the iftar party venue and threw water bottles and even attempted to physically assault him.
Such behavior is totally unacceptable from the lawyers of the country’s apex court and it clearly proves – being frustrated of their political future as their party has been rejected by the people of Bangladesh for their exposed affiliations with radical Islamist militancy as well as anti-Bangladesh vested interest groups. This incident reminds us the gruesome attacks of August 21, 2004, when then ruling coalition government of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and their ideological partner Jamaat-e-Islami as well as the war criminals and anti-liberation war elements made nefarious attempt of assassinating Sheikh Hasina and senior leaders of Awami League.
Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik became a prime target of agents of Pakistan and anti-liberation war elements because of his praiseworthy and heroic role in trying the war criminals. He also has been a target of Pakistani spy agency Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) for his undeterred patriotism and loyalty towards Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh.
Justice Chowdhury has been a victim of conspiracy of extremely controversial and corrupt former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha. It may be mentioned here that Sinha is a self-proclaimed agent of Pakistan and had actively collaborated with Pakistani occupation forces during Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971. Later it was proved that Sinha was actually a lapdog of Jamaat-e-Islami and darling of anti-Bangladesh forces.
We demand investigation into this outrageous and unacceptable attack on former Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik.
