At the end of 2022, 1,885 beneficiaries of the net metering support mechanism were registered, cumulative number for the period 2018-2022, with a total power of 33.47 MW. It should be noted that at the end of 2018 there were only 57 beneficiaries of net metering, with a cumulative capacity of 542.3 kW.
In the months of January-February 2023, 721 new beneficiaries of the net metering mechanism were registered, with a cumulative capacity of 12.8 MW. Of the number of beneficiaries, registered in the first two months of 2023, 620 are natural persons and 101 – legal persons. The total of 721 beneficiaries registered in the first 2 months of 2023 as a share constitutes about 40% of the total number of beneficiaries registered in the last 5 years, the period 2018-2022.
Thus, cumulatively, at the end of February 2023, the electricity production capacities through photovoltaic panels, with the application of the net metering mechanism, constituted 46.3 MW.
Net metering allows end consumers (individuals, companies) to produce and consume their own electricity by installing photovoltaic panels. In addition to promoting renewable energy sources, net metering means savings on electricity bills and less dependence on electricity tariff fluctuations, as part of the consumption is covered by the energy generated by the own photovoltaic system.
Any legal or natural person who wants to produce their own electricity through photovoltaic panel systems, consume it according to their needs and deliver only the surplus electricity to the network, must go through several steps in order to benefit from the support scheme from the state. In particular, it is about the analysis of the solar energy potential of the house, the request for the connection approval from the electricity supplier, the elaboration and coordination of the technical project, obtaining the correspondence document for the admission into operation from ANRE and the conclusion of the contract for the application of the metering mechanism net with the electricity supplier.
