Romania offers 750,000 dollars for the Defense Capacity Building Fund of the Republic of Moldova. What is the money for?

“Fourthly, the head of Romanian diplomacy pointed out the need to maintain political and practical commitment to Ukraine and sustained commitment to the Republic of Moldova, the most vulnerable state, after Ukraine, to hostile actions and Russian provocations. Thus, Minister Aurescu reiterated Romania’s support for an in-depth mechanism of political consultations between NATO and Ukraine and the transformation of the NATO-Ukraine Commission into a NATO-Ukraine Council, with increased powers compared to the current Commission, which would support the necessary reforms in Ukraine and the growth interoperability with NATO, as well as facilitate Ukraine’s path to accession.

The head of diplomacy from Bucharest reiterated the call to strengthen support for the Republic of Moldova “particularly vulnerable to Russia’s destabilizing actions”.

At the same time, Romania will provide another 830,000 dollars for the Voluntary Fund regarding the Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine.

The situation in the Republic of Moldova and especially the energy crisis in the country were also discussed in Brussels by the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken and the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

Focusing on those most affected by Russia’s war: last June, the European Union offered candidate country status to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Looking ahead, we want to support Ukraine in rebuilding green energy systems. The transition to green energy and energy security for our immediate neighbors – Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and the Western Balkans – are key priorities for us.

We remind you that, at the beginning of March 2022, the Republic of Moldova was accepted into the European ENTSO-E network, which allowed for a period, the import of the necessary electricity from Romania, in the months of October and November 2022. Until now, our country has not has a direct connection via an overhead power line with Romania, and the Vulcăneşti – Chisinau line would only be ready in 2025.
