The decision to buy indigenous aircraft will make the defense sector self-reliant: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday termed the Union Cabinet’s decision to purchase 70 indigenous aircraft for the Air Force as important, saying that it would give a fillip to the ongoing efforts to make the defense sector self-reliant.

It may be noted that the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday approved the purchase of 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at a cost of Rs 6,828.36 crore for the Indian Air Force.

These aircraft will be supplied over a period of six years. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “This is an important CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) decision, which will give a fillip to the ongoing efforts to make our defense sector self-reliant and also the vibrant MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector.” Will benefit.

On the CCS approving the purchase of three training ships from Larsen & Toubro for the Navy, the Prime Minister said the decision will meet the training needs of the Navy and make it stronger.

The first batch of these indigenously built and developed ships will be delivered in 2026. Prime Minister Modi is the chairman of the Committee on Security.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are the members of this committee.
