NHAI will set up public convenience centers at more than 600 places on the highway by 2024-25

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will set up public convenience centers at more than 600 locations on national highways and expressways by 2024-25. These public convenience centers will have petrol pumps, electric charging facilities, restaurants and retail shops.

NHAI made this announcement on Thursday. It aims to improve the travel experience on National Highways. Under this, public convenience centers will be set up every 40-60 kilometers on existing and upcoming national highways and expressways. NHAI said in a statement that the centers will have several facilities for passengers.

This includes petrol pumps, electric charging facilities, eateries, retail outlets and bank ATMs. NHAI has already allotted 160 Jan Suvidha Kendras, of which around 150 have been set up in the last two years alone.

Another 150 public convenience centers will be set up in the next financial year on new corridors like Amritsar-Bathinda-Jamnagar corridor, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.

NHAI informed that at present tenders have been issued for 75 public convenience centers on several old and new corridors. These locations are in eight states, including 27 in Rajasthan, 18 in Madhya Pradesh and three in Himachal Pradesh.
