PM Modi talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held talks with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni here and exchanged views on taking the multi-faceted bilateral relationship forward. Meloni was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on his arrival here on a state visit.

Later, Modi greeted Meloni before starting the bilateral talks at Hyderabad House.

“Awaiting a detailed agenda covering political, trade and economic, defence, science and technology, energy, health, consular and cultural sectors,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

Bagchi said in another tweet that talks are on between Prime Minister Modi and his Italian counterpart. Bagchi said, “The two leaders will exchange views on taking forward the multifaceted bilateral relationship with mutual commitment to promote development, broaden cooperation in various fields and deepen coordination on regional and global issues.” India and Italy are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

The Ministry of External Affairs has said that the multifaceted bilateral relations are based on shared cultural values, commitment to promote economic development, cooperation in the fields of green energy, science and technology, defence. Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and a high-level business delegation have also come to India with Meloni.

Meloni will attend the 8th Raisina Dialogue as the chief guest and keynote speaker starting on Thursday evening.
