Pakistan Rangers and policemen, who surrounded the residence of Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan to arrest him in a corruption case, began retreating on Wednesday, triggering a wave of jubilation among Khan’s supporters.

Quoting sources, Geo News said that the police will not move towards Khan’s Zaman Park residence till the Pakistan Super League (PSL) eight cricket matches, in which foreign players are also playing, continue. Police and other security officials were seen leaving Zaman Park after which Khan’s supporters celebrated and shouted slogans chasing the Rangers.

Soon after, Pakistan Tereek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Khan came out of his residence wearing a gas mask and met party workers.

In a tweet, the party said more workers were arriving at Zaman Park and vowed not to let the “nefarious designs” of the coalition government succeed. Earlier in the day, the administration deployed rangers outside Khan’s residence.

A day earlier, over 60 people, including 54 policemen, were injured in clashes between Khan’s supporters and the police. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Lahore and police have detained several of Khan’s supporters.

A Pakistani court on Wednesday granted temporary relief to Imran Khan by ordering police to stop action outside his residence till Thursday. Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party challenged the police action in the Lahore High Court on Tuesday.
