According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is coming on an official visit to India on March 20-21.

The statement said that during his visit, Fumio would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

According to the ministry, both sides will also discuss the priorities related to their respective chairmanships of G7 and G20.

Significantly, Japan will chair the meeting of the G7 group this year, while India is chairing the G20 group. The chairmanship of these groups is considered very important for both the countries. The visit of the Prime Minister of Japan to India is taking place at a time when many important issues are being discussed at the global level, including the implications of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
