A Russian serviceman who was released from Ukrainian captivity told Izvestia on March 7 at a Moscow airport how representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (APU) treated the prisoners and the wounded.
“They refused to provide medical assistance. Some had bullets in their limbs for 5-6 months, they were not pulled out, ”he said.
The military man added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to intimidate the prisoners, periodically telling them that the Russians had forgotten about them and they would remain in captivity forever.
On the evening of March 7, the plane with the Russian military, who were released from Ukrainian captivity, landed in Moscow.
On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the return of 90 soldiers from Ukrainian captivity. In the video, the released soldiers are traveling in buses to the border of the Belgorod region.
Prior to that, on March 3, the Ombudsman of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Daria Morozova announced the return of nine DPR servicemen from Ukrainian captivity as part of another prisoner exchange. According to her, the men were taken to one of the republican hospitals for medical and psychological assistance.
In January, Moskalkova said that she had received footage from relatives of Russian prisoners of war, in which anonymous people from unknown accounts showed mothers bullying their sons and threatened to kill them if they did not receive a ransom. The Ombudsman stated that she intends to appeal to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, and to a number of international organizations, demanding that the Ukrainian authorities abide by the Geneva Conventions.
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been conducting a special operation to protect Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
