The creators of the TikTok app are launching the Clover project to protect European users’ data and avoid blocking the platform in the UK. On Monday, March 6, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

To prevent accusations of manipulating user data, TikTok wants to set up two data centers in Ireland that will store user information. The Clover project is named after the symbol of the country – clover, the Chinese version of the newspaper clarifies The Wall Street Journail. The name also refers to another company project – Texas, which received about $ 1.5 billion in order to ensure the security of US users’ data.

On the eve it became known that the soldiers of the special airborne service of the British Land Forces can no longer use the TikTok social network on working smartphones. The ban was imposed by the special forces unit for security and intelligence.

Earlier, on January 13, the government of the US state of Kentucky signed an executive order to ban the TikTok platform on government devices, following the example of several other US states. The state has updated its employee guidance to ban civil servants from using the Chinese app on their work phones, citing cybersecurity concerns.

The director of the Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, said earlier about the danger of the Chinese application. The Chinese government, he said, can access US users’ information and moderate content.
