Some 400,000 Israelis took to the streets on Saturday to express dissatisfaction with judicial reform. About this on Sunday, March 5, writes the publication The Times of Israel.

The relevant data was provided by the organizers of the demonstrations. It is noted that their statements have not yet been confirmed by independent sources.

According to the leaders of the protest movement, the next large-scale actions are scheduled for March 9.

On the eve it became known that in Tel Aviv, protesters tried to block the Ayalon highway, in response, law enforcement officers used water cannons. The crowd eventually dispersed and traffic was fully restored. At the same time, four unknown persons were detained while trying to get into a fight with the police.

Earlier, on March 1, it became known about 11 victims during rallies in Tel Aviv. Many received bruises, cuts and burns when the crowd was dispersed by police forces. In addition, 39 people were detained on suspicion of hooliganism.

Protests have been going on in Israel since the beginning of the year. They are against the new government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his legal reform, which will give the Knesset (Israel’s legislature) more control over the judiciary. The Knesset will have the power to overrule Supreme Court decisions on laws and government decisions, and to appoint its judges.

On February 12, Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog, during an address to the nation amid protests, said that the country was on the verge of collapse and power should not be paralyzed. His words lead The Times of Israel.

The next day, leading researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences Boris Dolgov expressed the opinion in an interview with Izvestia that the mass actions in Israel would not be settled immediately, but would be settled. The authorities of the country will take measures to reduce the tension in society.
