Tourists who planned to visit the north of Cyprus began to massively refuse to travel. This was announced on Friday, March 3, by the agency Cyprus Mail with reference to the Turkish Cypriot press.

The agency notes that in February the total number of canceled tours reached 80%, and in March – 50%. At the same time, 60% of tours to third countries were canceled in March, and 50% to Turkey. In February, customers of the Kyosezade tourist office canceled 80% of tours, and 40% in a few days in March.

The reason for the refusal of tours was the statements of experts who predict another powerful earthquake in the region. Travel agents themselves cannot predict how things will develop with booking tours to Cyprus and Turkey in the near future.

The last earthquake in Turkey with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred earlier in the day. Before that, on the night of March 4, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 was also recorded there. The epicenter was located 16 km northeast of the city of Antakya with a population of about 210 thousand people.

In early February, devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in the Turkish province of Kahramanmarash in the southeast of the country near the Syrian border. According to the latest data, the death toll in Turkey has exceeded 45,000, and more than 5,800 people have died in Syria.

The number of victims of the earthquake in Syria, which occurred on February 6, amounted to 414,304 people.
