The West is holding the G20 hostage to its confrontational line, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on March 2.

The corresponding statement was made due to the fact that the G20 did not agree on the final document for the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) of the G20 in New Delhi.

“… the final collective document was never agreed upon. The reason for this was the peremptory demands of the United States, the EU and others to reflect subjective views on the hyped geopolitical crisis around Ukraine. We regret that the Westerners continue to hold the G20 hostage to their confrontation line,” the agency said in a Telegram channel.

The Foreign Ministry added that during his speech, Lavrov noted the importance of the constructive and depoliticized functioning of the G20, as well as the strengthening of the positions of countries with emerging markets on this site.

On March 1-2, a meeting of the G20 Foreign Ministers is taking place in New Delhi.

Lavrov said during the meeting that a number of Western delegations turned the work on the G20 agenda into a farce, and apologized for their behavior. Thus, within the framework of the meeting, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock appealed to her Russian counterpart to end the special operation.

In addition, he noted that Western countries have sacrificed to their ambitions for Ukraine all the issues that should form the “core” of the G20 summit agenda.
