Pennsylvania man arrested for trying to carry explosives on plane

A Pennsylvanian was detained while trying to carry an improvised explosive device on board a plane at Lehigh Valley International Airport in the suburbs of Allentown. This was reported by the newspaper on March 1 Politico with reference to local authorities.

Detained 40-year-old Mark Muffley was supposed to fly to Orlando International Airport (Florida) by Allegiant Air. He hid the explosives in the lining of his suitcase, having previously packed them in paper and film.

“An FBI explosives specialist took an X-ray and concluded that the device contained gunpowder and granular powder, which is used in commercial-grade fireworks. The luggage also contained a can of butane, a lighter, a pipe with residual white powder, and a cordless drill.

During the search, it was determined that the alleged explosive device posed a significant risk to the airliner and passengers.

Muffley was called on the PA system and was seen leaving the airport shortly after. He was traced to an address in Lunsford, where he was arrested by the FBI.

Earlier, on January 31, a man was detained at the capital’s Sheremetyevo airport, who said that he had an explosive device with him. The man made a statement at the entrance to one of the terminals. However, no explosive devices or explosive items were found on him.
