About 100 modern Russian trains “Moscow-2020” will run along the Big Circle Line (BKL) of the Moscow metro. This was announced on March 1 on the official site mayor of Moscow.
“Over this period, we have created a whole school of mechanical engineering, which is now in no way inferior to foreign train manufacturers in anything. If there were no such projects as BKL, there would be no large-scale renovation of the subway, there would be no these trains, ”the press service quotes the words of the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.
The new trains have the widest possible doors and passages between cars – 1.6 m. Large information displays, lighting matching the color of the line, and air disinfection systems are installed inside. There are also USB chargers near each seat.
Moscow-2020 trains will make it possible to maintain short service intervals that are comfortable for Muscovites during rush hours. They will be served by the new Nizhegorodskoye and Aminevskoye electric depots. Also, the Zamoskvoretskoye electric depot was repurposed for the repair and sludge of new trains.
The opening ceremony for the Big Circle Line took place earlier that day. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in it via video link. The Mayor of Moscow, employees of the Moscow Metro and specialists who built the BKL attended the ceremony in person.
Within five days from the date of opening, entrance to the BKL station will be free, Sobyanin said. According to him, every passenger should appreciate the convenience of the world’s largest metro ring.
Also, the metropolitan department of transport reported that a pilot 5G B2B network from MTS will operate at BKL stations. It operates at five BKL stations – Maryina Roshcha, Rizhskaya, Sokolniki, Elektrozavodskaya and Nizhegorodskaya.
In October 2022, Alexei Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of the Moscow City for Urban Planning Policy and Construction, said that the opening of all stations of the Big Circle Line would reduce traffic congestion in Moscow by 10-15%.
