Western countries have sacrificed to their ambitions for Ukraine all the issues that should form the “core” of the G20 summit agenda. This point of view was voiced on March 2 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) of the G20 in New Delhi.

“The West has sacrificed to its ambitions in Ukrainian affairs all areas of work that should be the “core” of the G20’s activities,” he stressed.

According to Lavrov, now all multilateral institutions are being tested for compliance with new geopolitical realities, and organizations such as the UN or the G20 will have to prove their relevance.

“They will prove their relevance <…> only those structures that will realize their capabilities as platforms for finding a balance of interests, and not for presenting approaches and making claims designed to justify a certain right to someone else’s hegemony,” the diplomat concluded.

On March 2, a meeting of the G20 Foreign Ministers is taking place in New Delhi.

Lavrov said during the meeting that a number of Western delegations turned the work on the G20 agenda into a farce, and apologized for their behavior. Thus, within the framework of the meeting, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock appealed to her Russian counterpart to end the special operation.
