The conflict in Ukraine could drag on for another three years, Colin Kahl, deputy head of the Pentagon, said at a hearing in the US Congress on February 28.

“We do not know the trajectory of the conflict. The conflict could be over in six months, or maybe in two or three years,” Kahl said.

He also said that the Pentagon does not know how much more military assistance from the West Kyiv will need, since it is not clear how the conflict will develop. At the same time, he recalled that US President Joe Biden promised to support Ukraine for as long as necessary.

If such support stops, then, according to Kahl, “the balance will change in favor of Russia.”

During his speech, the deputy head of the Pentagon also said that the conflict in Ukraine showed the inability of the US military-industrial complex (MIC) to produce the required amount of ammunition.

Earlier that day, Oleg Savchenko, deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on financial markets, said that the conflict in Ukraine could be stopped at any moment, as soon as the West hears Russia’s position. At the same time, he stressed that Russia has always “frankly” stated its position on its security.

On February 22, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said that Russia would be torn apart if it stopped the special operation to protect Donbass without achieving victory. As for the conflict, in his opinion, it will end when the US stops supplying weapons to Kyiv.

The day before, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin noted that the United States is constantly talking about the desire to protect the world, but in fact they are only profiting from the Ukrainian conflict, the US military-industrial complex has made good money on this.

On February 20, US President Joe Biden arrived in Kyiv on a visit, where he met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. During the visit, the head of the White House announced a new $500 million military aid package, which could include howitzers and Javelin systems.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of a special operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
