The United States announced the transfer of economic assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $1.25 billion

Washington will transfer the first tranche of economic assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $1.25 billion by the end of the third quarter of 2023. This was announced by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Yellen discusses US economic aid <…> including the first tranche of $1.25 billion of the total $9.9 billion budget assistance package of US budget support, which will be provided until the end of the third quarter of 2023. Press Release issued by the US Department of the Treasury said.

During its speeches Yellen said Washington has given Kyiv more than $14 billion in economic aid to date, and will provide more than $8 billion more in the coming months.

Earlier, on February 24, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the United States is allocating $9.9 billion as additional budgetary support to the government of Ukraine.

On February 20, US President Joe Biden, during a meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv, announced a new $500 million military aid package.

According to The Hill newspaper, the total US spending on military support for Ukraine exceeded $77 billion.

On February 7, Republican Matt Goetz said during a meeting of the House of Representatives that Washington is spending tens of billions of dollars on Ukraine to foment a conflict that does not meet the national interests of the United States. In his opinion, the White House violates its own “red lines” every day, supplying Kyiv with more and more powerful weapons.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced in February 2022 amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
