Football coach and author of the video channel “burry football” Nikita Kovalchuk, as part of a large interview with Sports.ru, explained why he “does not miss Russia.” In particular, the blogger complained about the Moscow mentality.
Since 2020, the blogger has lived in Latvia, where he has been a coach of the Jurmala and Metta football clubs. Kovalchuk highly appreciated the time he spent abroad. Comparing Latvia and Russia, the blogger recalled that “during the first three hours” of his forced stay in Moscow, several unpleasant stories happened to him that characterize the capital in a bad light. At the same time, similar incidents did not happen to him in Latvia: “Riga is small, calm.”
Kovalchuk also answered positively to the question about possible permanent residence in Latvia: “Of course. I liked everything”. At the time of the start of the special military operation, the blogger continued his work in Latvia, despite its tough and hostile policy towards the Russian Federation. Kovalchuk left this country only in 2023, continuing his coaching career in Cyprus.
The blogger emphasized that he had already taken his children out of Russia, and the opportunity to work in Cyprus would allow him to “bring [сюда] parents.” The main disadvantage of being in Latvia, according to Kovalchuk, was his own financial situation: “…incomes have changed radically. For the worse.”
