Russian Foreign Ministry: developing ties with the Middle East is one of Russia’s strategic priorities

In the light of the Ukrainian crisis, one of the “unconditional strategic priorities” of the Russian Federation is the development of cooperation with the states of North Africa and the Middle East. This statement was made by the head of the Russian diplomatic department Sergei Lavrov. Details are reported by the RIA Novosti news outlet.

“We state with satisfaction that, despite the unprecedented pressure from the collective West led by the United States, the Arab friends take a balanced position on the situation in Ukraine and around it, guided primarily by fundamental national interests,” Deputy Minister Mikhail Bogdanov read out a statement.

The speaker emphasized that Russia would continue to work on turning the Middle East into a security zone. Assistance will also be provided to overcome crises.
