In the Bryansk region in the city of Novozybkovo, police detained an 18-year-old courier, an assistant to telephone scammers. About this on Tuesday, February 28, writes NASHBRYANSK.RU with reference to the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Earlier, an 83-year-old woman turned to law enforcement officers. She said that she received a call from an unknown person who said that her daughter allegedly became the culprit of a serious accident. The caller added that the situation could be settled for 300,000 rubles. The woman agreed. After that, a courier arrived for the money. Then the victim contacted her daughter and realized that she had been deceived.
In addition, under similar circumstances, two more elderly residents of the district center lost 50,000 and 150,000 rubles.
The police managed to detain the courier. The young man admitted that he acted as an intermediary. He transferred the money to the account of an anonymous employer, keeping part of the amount for himself.
Criminal cases have been initiated against the suspect under article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”).
Earlier, on January 25, a court in the city of Mirny in Yakutia sentenced a bank teller who stole more than 43 million rubles. She will spend three and a half years in a general regime colony. The court also granted the bank’s claim for damages.
