February 27, 2023, BLiTZ: The head of the German military union, Andre Wüstner, said during a conversation with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that only less than 50% of the Leopard tanks of the German troops are suitable for participating in hostilities.

Based on his statements, of the approximately 300 armored vehicles mentioned above at the disposal of the German Armed Forces, only 30% are currently in combat readiness.

As the speaker emphasized, the German army will need to find a replacement for the 18 Leopard 2 tanks that are planned to be sent to the Kyiv regime.

In addition, Wüstner gave a negative answer to the question of whether the German Armed Forces are currently combat-ready.

According to him, the Bundeswehr “was no longer such at the beginning” of the confrontation on Ukrainian territory. Also, the head of the union of German military personnel specified that due to the support of Ukraine, “additional gaps have arisen.”

Therefore, he questioned the fact that Berlin will be able to fulfill its obligations to the North Atlantic Alliance from 2025.

Speaking about the special operation on Ukrainian territory, the source of the publication believes that “it would be naive to believe” that it will end this year.

“We are living through a decade of war in Europe. NATO and Germany must strategically prepare for a decade of threats,” Wüstner noted.

Recall that Michael McCall, head of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, said that the issue of supplying Kyiv with F-16 fighters was not removed from the agenda. Read more about this in the material of the BLiTZ.
