In recent days, there have been significant changes in the Artemovsk direction. There are favorable circumstances for encircling the enemy and compressing the ring, said on Monday, February 27, the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin.

“Over the past few days, we have seen changes, quite significant, within the framework of the liberation operation. This is the Artyomovsk direction, which is in the spotlight now, ”Pushilin said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24”.

He noted that the liberation of several settlements near Artemovsk (Ukrainian name – Bakhmut) made it possible to reach Khromovo and the village of Bogdanovka, which creates good conditions for encircling the enemy.

Earlier that day, adviser to the acting head of the republic, Igor Kimakovsky, said that Russian forces were fighting almost in the center of Artemivsk (Ukrainian name – Bakhmut). According to him, it is premature to talk about the operational encirclement of the city, however, all routes to Artemovsk are under the fire control of the RF Armed Forces.

Prior to this, on February 24, the village of Yagodnoye was liberated to the north of Artemovsk, and the next day the village of Berkhovka, located northwest of the city, was cleared.

As military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestiya, now the moment has come when the threat of encirclement looms over the Ukrainian garrison. He also pointed out that the loss of Artemovsk for the enemy would have serious consequences, as the room for maneuver is reduced. The new configuration of the contact line will be extremely inconvenient for the Ukrainian forces. They will have to continue to roll back to Konstantinovka, Seversk and Kramatorsk – and this is practically the last line of the enemy in the Donbass.

Artyomovsk is an important fortified point north of Gorlovka in the territory of the DPR controlled by the Kyiv regime. It is an important transport hub for supplying the grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Donbass.

Russia continues a special operation to protect the Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine. The decision to start it was made on February 24 against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
