Advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak said that at present, due to hostilities in eastern Ukraine, the issue of freedom of crossing the border by Ukrainian citizens should not be raised. He announced this on the air of Ukrainian television.

According to Podolyak, speculation about the rights of citizens is inappropriate, and any rights must be accompanied by duties.

The adviser stressed that if in peacetime there are no objections to going abroad, then in martial law such an approach is not appropriate.

“Because when we say “open borders for men,” it means who wants to run away from making a man’s decision, and they want to run away,” Podolyak emphasized.

Now Kyiv severely restricts the ability of men of combat age to leave the country, and men who try to leave are detained daily at the borders of Ukraine.

Many Ukrainians understand that conscription into the army can end in death, and therefore go abroad. However, departing women may lose contact with Ukraine, especially if they are young, and this can have a serious impact on the demographic situation in the country.

On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation Army launched a special military operation in Ukraine.

Acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin said that the Russian Armed Forces are approaching Vuhledar from three directions at once: from the south, southwest and west. The head of the DPR stressed that “the process is not going fast.”

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, said that the situation in Donbass is getting tougher. According to Zelensky, a very difficult situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is developing in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and Vugledar, as well as in Limansky and other directions.
