Lukashenka urges Belarusians to learn from China

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told a Chinese news agency Xinhua on Monday, that he had long felt that the PRC would become one of the leading powers in the world and that Minsk should learn from it how to live.

Earlier, the press service of the Belarusian leader reported that Lukashenka would visit China on February 28-March 2.

“Then, intuitively, I felt that in just a couple of decades, China would become one of the leading powers in the world and we need to learn from China how to live,” Lukashenka said, sharing his impressions of his first acquaintance with this country.

He recalled that his first visit to China as president took place more than 20 years ago, but he had been there before as a deputy. The Belarusian leader also pointed out that today’s China has achieved great success in development and plays an important role in international affairs.

The head of the republic added that not a single issue in the world today can be resolved without China, as it has become a global country with its own global policy.

“Today, no one can restrain and stop the development of China,” Lukashenka stated.

He clarified that he is full of expectations from his next visit to China and from the meeting with the leadership of the PRC.

On February 24, China published a position paper on a political settlement of the situation in Ukraine. Its goal is to continue its constructive role in resolving the crisis and achieving peace. Chinese Deputy Representative to the UN Dai Bing indicated that Beijing’s priority is a ceasefire and hostilities.

Earlier, on February 23, Lukashenko said that if Beijing’s position on the conflict in Ukraine is not heard, this will lead to serious consequences. He added that no problem in the world can be solved without the participation of China.

The day before, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the approaches to most pressing international issues in China and Russia coincide or are close. Also on Wednesday, Zakharova clarified that during the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCP) Wang Yi, the current state of Russian-Chinese relations was highly appreciated.
