Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on Monday, February 27, said that China’s peace plan for the situation in Ukraine deserves attention.
“Of course, any attempts to develop plans that will contribute to the transfer of the conflict to a peaceful course deserve attention. We treat the plan of our Chinese friends with such attention. As for the details, then, of course, the details should be the subject of careful analysis, taking into account the interests of the parties, ”he told reporters.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, such an assessment is a long and arduous process. He added that now Moscow does not see the prerequisites for the process to go into a peaceful direction.
Peskov also noted that the special operation continues. Russia is moving towards achieving its goals, he noted.
Earlier, on February 24, China published a document with a position on the political settlement of the situation in Ukraine. Its goal is to continue its constructive role in resolving the crisis and achieving peace. Chinese Deputy Representative to the UN Dai Bing indicated that Beijing’s priority is a ceasefire and hostilities.
Beijing, in particular, called for peace talks, reducing strategic risks, guaranteeing the export of grain, ending unilateral sanctions against the Russian Federation and other actions in the field of political settlement of the conflict.
In addition, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called for strengthening the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
On February 22, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Beijing highly appreciates the readiness of the Russian Federation to resolve the conflict in Ukraine through negotiations.
Prior to meeting with the Russian leader, Wang Yi held talks with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev. Then Patrushev pointed out that Russia and China stand for a just world order and welcome the growth in the number of states choosing the path of sovereign development.
Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special operation to protect the Donbass, against which Ukraine has been fighting since 2014. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
