February 26, 2023, BLiTZ: News Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that a ministerial commission on legislation has passed a law introducing the death penalty for those convicted of terrorism.

“Today, in the Ministerial Commission on Legislation, together with Minister Ben Gvir, we passed a law on the death penalty for terrorists,” Netanyahu wrote on his social media page.

The head of the Israeli government promised that he would continue to act in the field of security to create a “factor of deterrence against terrorists and guarantee the security” of the country. The document states that the death penalty threatens anyone who “intentionally or out of indifference causes the death of an Israeli citizen when the act is carried out out of racist motives or hatred of a certain public … and with the aim of harming the State of Israel and the revival of the Jewish people in its homeland.”

Meanwhile, the UN demands that Iran abandon the practice of the death penalty. The call came after the Iranian authorities announced their intention to execute two participants in the protests. At the same time, discussions continue in Russia about the introduction of the death penalty. Statements about the impossibility of such punishment in the country within the framework of the Basic Law in the State Duma were called far from the truth. As the BLiTZ reported, Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Lower House for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, insists on this.
