The news for President Joe Biden continues to get worse the longer he’s in office, as evidenced by a newly released mainstream survey indicating his approval rating fell 6 points in a single week. Writes Jon Dougherty
A Reuters/Ipsos survey released late last week found that Biden’s approval rating has shrunk to its lowest level in that poll since he was inaugurated — 41 percent. Meanwhile, the president’s disapproval rose 6 points, from 50 percent to 56 percent, from the previous week.
“Interestingly, Biden’s cratering approval ratings are largely driven by dissatisfaction among the Democrat base, as his approval among Democrats dropped 11 percentage points in one week, tanking from 82 percent approval to 71 percent,” Breitbart News noted.
The Reuters/Ipsos survey added: “Republicans remain extremely critical of Biden, with just 14% reporting they approve. Independents are also dissatisfied, with just one-third (34%) approving this week.”

The Democrat-led Congress is not faring any better than Biden, as congressional approval sank to 18 percent, according to a recent Gallup poll. That is down from the highest approval it received in more than a decade in that particular poll, which occurred in March 2021, having 36 percent support. Like Biden, the Democrat-led Congress is also seeing dismal approval ratings from its own base.
“The poll, which was conducted between February 2-3 on 1,005 Americans, asked: ‘Overall, do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling his job as President[?]’” USA Features News reported. “According to the results, 56% disapproved.
“Broken down by political affiliation, only 14% of Republicans approved, 34% of Independents approved, and 71% of Democrats approved,” the site continued.
This latest survey follows several other recent surveys all showing plunging support for Bide and his vice president, Kamala Harris.
Last month, a Fox News showed that 50 percent of voters surveyed said that they would back someone other than Biden for president if the election were held today.
The New York Post noted:
Asked if the election were held today, 60 percent said they would “probably” or “definitely” vote for someone else, compared to 36 percent who said they would “definitely” or “probably” re-elect Biden.
Fifty-two percent said they would vote for someone other than Trump if it were February 2020, and 51 percent said they would select somebody other than Obama if it were August 2011.
The survey also shows the deep dissatisfaction Americans feel for Biden’s handling of the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic, border security and foreign policy.
The president’s job disapproval rating is at 52 percent, a slight rise from last month, but a 9 percentage point increase from April, while his approval rating is trending in the opposite direction — from a high of 56 percent in June to 47 percent in this poll.
Voters are upset with Biden’s policies in a number of areas, the survey indicated.
For instance, 58 percent disapprove versus 41 percent who approve of his handling of the economy, while his COVID-19 policies showed similar results: 52 percent disapprove whereas 46 approved.
Border security was among his worst showings, with a whopping 59 percent disapproving of his handling of the issue versus a mere 37 percent who approved. And on foreign policy, 54 percent disapproved compared to 41 who approved.
Harris’ polling was actually worse than Biden’s; the survey showed her with a 54 percent disapproval rating.
Meanwhile, inflation continues to chip away at Americans’ take-home pay, all but erasing wage gains made during the Trump administration, another issue that is frustrating voters and turning them sour on the administration.
“For now, inflation is going to continue to run above very solid wage growth,” Joseph LaVorgna, chief economist for the Americas at Natixis and former chief economist for the National Economic Council during the Trump administration, told CNBC in November.
“This is why when you look at consumer confidence, it’s really taking a beating. Households do not like the inflation story, and rightly so,” he added.
Food and gas prices, especially, have risen during Biden’s administration, making it more difficult for average wage earners to make ends meet.
