March 23 - BLiTZ. The mayor of the Latvian Daugavpils Andrey Elksninsh said he was ready to take away from the capital and install in his city a monument to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Portal writes about it <a rel="nofollow" href="https://lenta.ru/news/2023/03/23/daugavpils_pushkin/">"Lenta.ru"</a> with a link to the mayor's social networks.
The official recalled the historical connection of the city, which has a street named after Pushkin, with the famous classic: a close friend of the creator Wilhelm Kuchelbecker in the 19th century was imprisoned in the fortress in the mentioned settlement, from where he sent messages to him.

The article recalled that activists of the Russian Union of Latvia came out to protest against the government’s decision to remove the monument to Pushkin.
