Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the security forces in Novo-Ogaryovo on the situation in the Kursk region.

The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov and FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov.

“Please report on the situation that is developing in the Kursk region along the lines of your departments. The Chief of the General Staff is currently at one of the operational control points, and then Sergei Kuzhugetovich will talk about the results of his trip to Iran and Azerbaijan,” Putin said.

According to Gerasimov, at 5.30 on August 6, a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine numbering up to one thousand people went on the offensive with the aim of capturing a section of territory in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. The actions of the units covering the state border together with border guards and reinforcement units, air strikes by missile forces and artillery fire stopped the enemy’s advance deep into the territory in the Kursk direction,” Gerasimov reported.

He added that units of the Sever group, together with the border agencies of the Russian FSB, continue to destroy the enemy in areas directly adjacent to the Russian-Ukrainian border.

“The operation will be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border,” concluded the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said at a meeting of the president with members of the government that the first tranche of 1.8 billion rubles for the resettlement of residents of the Kursk region will be sent on Wednesday. Work is underway to evacuate families from unsafe areas of the region. 19 temporary accommodation points have been created, medical assistance is being provided to the victims, teams of specialists from the federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Medical and Biological Agency have been brought in.

Commenting on the situation, Vladimir Putin stated that the Kiev regime had undertaken yet another large-scale provocation, conducting indiscriminate shooting, including at civilian targets.
